Accessing CC ebooks via Nextcloud possible?

Hello all,

I've been using OneDrive to host my books and used a CC cloud connection from mobile devices.

I slowly want to get rid of Dropbox/Google/Microsoft/Facebook and all such data giants, and I have replaced my cloud storage with a Nextcloud hosted on a small cloud storage provider. I'm using Windows 10.

Now how can I continue CC? Is there an EASY way of using my Nextcloud storage to access my books (ca. 30 GB) from mobile devices?

I looked around some and understand that Nextcloud isn't currently available among the CC cloud connection choices. But there surely is a way to set this up somehow? Maybe as a different connection form? Server?

Unfortunately I'm inexperienced in setting up anything more complicated than providing URL, login and password, let's say. But I'm willing to experiment if someone can point me to some precise instructions!

P.S.: I'm aware of https://dev.to/setevoy/calibre-web-h...n-android-1ho0 -- but the described solution definitely goes beyond my computer know-how.

Thanks for any help,

xyris

Calibre error message "No Space on Device" when trying to add to CC.

I load txt files on Calibre companion so I can easily see what books I have and don't have when my laptop is off, as I get books from all sorts of retailers.

I am getting the following message. My Ipad had 89.5GB free so its not my ipad that's out of space. Is there a limit on how many txt files can be stored? I have 6055 at the moment and wanted to add another 70 tonight.

Its the same problem on both my Ipad Air (2019) and my Ipad Mini 5. Calibre Companion is Version 2.0.15 (1)

The first error message is this, followed by a list of books not loaded.

calibre, version 5.17.0
ERROR: No space on device:
Cannot upload books to device there is no more free space available in main memory.

This is the longer error message

calibre, version 5.17.0

Selling CC

I know many in this forum are upset with the way we have handled development.

We have decided that in the best interest of the community we are happy to sell CC to a new owner.

If any of you are interested please feel free to reach out and we can setup a time to speak on a call.

Looking forward to getting this into someones hands who can further its growth.

How to use my Calibre library on SD card

$

I bought a new Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2016) and updated the OS to Android version 8.1.0 and Samsung experience version 9.5.
I have copied my Calibre library from my PC to the SD card on the Samsung Tab. The Library is now in My Files > SD Card > Calibre Library > Calibre

I try to use this library with connect to Cloud (Library on device or SD Card). I am then asked Choose which library. When I continue I only see files on the device and I do not see a button to choose the SD Card.

What should I do to have CC find and load my Calibre library on the SD Card?

How to set my default reader app in CC?

Just have CC installed on my android-11 device, and have calibre books "send to device" via CC wireless connection...while long press any book will have a popup menu directing to FAQ instead of opening the book...

Is there a place in CC Settings to set "Default reader app", how I can open the book in CC without this parameter? my current reader app is Koreader.

Thanks you for the help!:help:

Duplicate News Entries in CC, after Wireless Txfr?

Hello All,

I've been using CC for years, but there is something I've not yet been able to figure out: Why do I get multiple copies of downloaded News "pieces" ( magazine, recipe output, whatever ) on my device, after I perform a wireless transfer / sync? There seems to be only one copy of each in Calibre on my laptop, but I get multiple copies on my device. Haven't been able to find anything on this.

Another question is, if I am using Wireless Txfr and Sync, why don't all of my books come over to my device? Most seem to be missing.

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

CC to FBReader path mucked up

Pixel 2 / Android 11
Calibre Companion version 5.4.4.19 (410)
FBReader Premium version 3.0.35 (3003400)

When I look through CC to find a book to read, and then choose it, FBReader opens back to the book I was reading before and a toast message appears showing that FBR is looking for the book in /external. But /external doesn't even exist on this phone; the paths FBR should be looking in, and the path CC is saving to, are correct (see add'l screenshots.)

I end up going into FBR and picking the book out manually from the file tree, which is kind of a pain.

Suggestions?

Cannot open PDF files

$

I've gotten various error messages when trying to open PDF files through Calibre Companion. I have various PDF readers and the result is the same no matter which one I choose after selecting Read inside CC, e.g. the file doesn't exist, it's corrupt, locked whatever. However, if I use a file manager to navigate to these PDFs, there is no problem opening the files. I have a Samsung Galaxy A31 phone with Android 11.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite tablet with Android 11 and there are no problems. Therefore, I assume that this is not an Android problem.

One error message suggested shortening the file name. That did nothing. I tried changing the settings on where the ebooks are stored and got a message that the PDF files couldn't be tranfered.

I deleted all of the ebooks and just tried to transfer 1 or 2 wirelessly from my computer. I still could not open the files through CC.

Finally, I Uninstalled CC from my phone and reinstalled it, and transferred a few books. The problem disappeared.

This makes me wonder if the problem is some kind of CC file that got corrupted. Since I don't know what the file was, if it was the main app file itself, or if I could even access whatever file it was, Uninstalling and reinstalling was the only way for me to solve the problem, and it did fix the situation.

Custom colums connecting to the cloud

$

I have custom columns for Read and Date Read defined in Calibre, which I can synchronise to CC if I connect as a wireless device.

However if I connect to the cloud (where the same Calibre database is stored) I cannot either see the custom columns in the book details, not change their values.

Does the Cloud connection support display and update of custom columns?

Alternative calibre companion on windows?

There is something for windows that allows access to a library that is in OneDrive, but without physically synchronizing it, that is, what calibre companion does.
It is a question from a friend, I recommended the content server, but he does not want to leave the pc on with calibre.

Getting metadata from CC into calibre?

Hello!

Background: I am using calibre 5.22 on a Mac (Monterey 12.0 beta) and Calibre Companion 5.4.4.19 (410) on a 2019 Fire tablet.

I had put together a library of about 18,000 items in calibre. I added a custom hierarchical tag-type column and used it to assign a "topic" to each item in the library, so that I could look for a book on a given subject without necessarily knowing the title/author of the book. I added all of these items, custom column information included, to Calibre Companion on the Fire tablet, stored on a micro SD card, and I was able to sort/group everything by the information in the "topic" column. All of this took what would probably be considered by most people, to put it mildly, "an *excruciatingly* long time." But finally it was done, and all was well, and I was really quite pleased with my little library.

Then, in attempting to do a smart thing (clearing enough space on an external drive, where I had partial collections of most of the files, so that I could back up said 18,000+ item calibre library all in one place), I did a very, very dumb thing: thinking I was looking at the external drive's contents, but actually looking at my computer's own contents, I deleted the *originals* from my computer, emptying the Trash periodically as I went along, getting through about 3/4 of the titles before realizing what I had actually done.

(For the record, yes, all of that was a very big mistake! It is genuinely the dumbest single thing I have ever done, in my entire life, and I have no explanation for how it came to be. Transient complete absence of consciousness, I guess. :dizzy2: )

Aghast upon realizing what I'd done, I immediately stopped, and copied the whole lot from the Fire's micro SD card onto an external drive. I then set up a new calibre library, re-created a "topics" column, and imported those files into the library. The basic information (title, author) for the books showed up as expected, but not the information for the "topics" column.

The "good news" is that in all this, I don't think I actually lost any books, because the vast majority were on the aforementioned Fire tablet, and those that weren't there were on a second tablet. And all the "topics" information continues to display in CC. I have since sent new books to CC on the tablet, from a subsequently-created calibre library, and this has remained true. In fact, I have assigned "topics" information to the new books in the new calibre library as well, and they fit right in with the same existing structure in CC.

Additionally: if I transfer a book from CC on the tablet to calibre on my computer (connected as a wireless device), the "topics" information goes along with them, and fills in the proper column just as it did when I originally set it up. What I am really, really hoping is that there might be some way to export the "topics" information (maybe a catalog of the items/their metadata in CC?) all at once, and get it back into calibre, accompanying the corresponding books.

So while it does seem I *can* get everything back into a calibre library by sending them from CC to my computer, for 18,000+ items, many of them quite large, it would take an awfully long time. As far as my ability to guesstimate informs me, manually re-assigning the "topics" information to each of 18,000+ items would probably take about the same amount of time. While none of any of this is really the end of the world, if it's possible to save myself a great deal of time, I figured it was worth asking about. To me, it seems like it *might* be a fairly straightforward thing to accomplish, but not knowing enough to actually get it done, I realize that assessment is... not based in a whole lot.

Anyway! In conclusion: if you have any suggestions as to how I might accomplish this, I would be very appreciative indeed! Thank you for reading.

Cannot dismiss keyboard in Content Server-settings

I have an iPad Pro and an iPhone XR. On my iPad works everything fine after I set the Content Server address in the „normal“ setting and under advanced. Just https://mydomain.com without a port.

On the iPhone it won’t work because on the IP address the „enter“-button is a next-button and on the Port it it is a done-button. But the done-button is greyed out when I do not enter a port. But the app does not allow to enter a port when you have a URL set. And there is now way to dismiss the keyboard like other apps sometimes have.

I bet if I can connect a Bluetooth-keyboard everything works fine since the soft-keyboard is not shown and I can hit Ok in the dialogue.

Please fix this bug so that people without a Bluetooth-keyboard can use the app on an iPhone

Copying CC library between devices

I want to use CC on two devices: my tablet (where I read my books) and my phone (where I want to upload the books to read). To copy between the devices, I plan on using a cloud-based two-way sync for the books.

I had this setup done and copied the books from my tablet (via the cloud service) to my phone and changed the phone's CC directory to the copied directory, but the books aren't showing up in the phone's CC library.

Is there a way to do something like that? Thanks!

Using CalibreCompanion->Kindle reader on iPad - help requested..

I'm trying to get CalibreCompanion to work on my iPad.

CC can see my Calibre library on Dropbox. I can download a book (everything in .mobi format) in CC. Not really sure where download is landing.

Things stop working when I try to stuff the book into my Kindle. When I push "read" in CC, then select Kindle, I get "Incompatible Document Type".

Anyone have a way to get the book into the iPad Kindle Reader??

Thx for any help
