Dunno if it is a permissions thing as books are on sd card, but they have been for months and this error is recent.
I can add books, read them, just cannot delete them. ..
Any suggestions for debugging this.

[Android]Taking over a minute a book to transfer on my FiGo ULTRA phone

I have over 5000 ebooks on the SD card (32Gb) in my FiGo ULTRA M50G phone. Right now I am connected via WiFi and transferring 112 more ebooks in epub format and it is taking forever. In 26 minutes it has done 16% of those 112 ebooks, which average 2Mb each at the most. As least at this slow speed it does not loose the connection as often as it does when it is running at a faster download speed, but it is frustrating since I have over 19,000 ebooks I'd like to transfer to this phone. After all, I never know what I feel like reading on any given day, and I'd like to have more ebooks on the phone than I can read before I die... morbid as that sounds.

So what can I do in the settings to speed up the transfer rate?

I note that CC is showing as a linked app in the Files App on my iPad/iPhone. However when I click on it, it says 'Internal error - Couldn't communicate with a helper application'. Is this suppose to show something? Or an error?

[Android] V5.4.3 Beta

V5.4.3.1 Beta has been released.

Changes:
  • Updated Google Tools
  • Make the header line in the content server fixed. This permits users to see the busy indicator after scrolling the list.
  • [FIX] Fix more black-on-black action bar text on Android 8
  • [FIX] Fix a crash in the Content Server when the server is slow. The crash occurred after scrolling down a list then selecting an item that itself was large.
I have decided to use that Google calls an "Open Beta". Anyone who has paid from CC can (in theory) choose to run the beta version by going to CC's Google Play listing on the device. You can also leave the beta program by leaving the beta test, uninstalling the beta (do a backup first), then reinstalling the production version.

I think that the members of the beta test Google Group will be automatically enrolled, but I am not certain. In any event, that group will disappear in the not too far distant future.

Calibre Companion not connecting

Hi,

I am testing the demo version prior to buy the fully featured version.
But the companion is not connecting.

The server is running (192.168.10.7:8080). I can access the server via
browser. The client is on my wlan, which uses a routed network
192.168.26.0/24 (Client on 192.168.26.98). I check the network with
"wireshark" and I can see, that the client sets up a connection and
terminates the connection without any data transfer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Bookmarks not saving any more

I'm using Calibre Companion (full version) on a Fire 10. The last several books that I've synced over from Calibre Windows don't seem to work right. The bookmarks are not saved. If I bookmark where I stopped reading, then close/reopen the book from CC, it just starts from the beginning of the book again.

Probably related: The affected books also do not show up in the Fire 10's native book browser. Older books though -- that were synced previously -- do still show up, and the bookmarks do still work in those books.

It's interesting, that I've always converted to .mobi for books to go on my Fire (and on my previous Kindle Fire HD 7). With this last batch of books though, I thought I'd try .AZW3. When I realized that the bookmarks weren't working, I deleted the AZW3 files and converted my books to mobi. But those are not working either... Did I break my CC by trying to put AZW3 files on it ???

I checked the various CC settings and searched the help docs. No luck. I have plenty of unused memory, so no problem there.

Thoughts?

I can connect to calibre using the cc via the content server. but when I select a book to download (i've used both the press and hold and select the format I want (AZW)) I am unable to get the book to appear in my Kindle Library.

if I go into CC I can select the book and the read option brings it up. But I am unable to find it when I go to the Kindle Library.

This has just started happening and I've not changed any settings and I have been able to get books to download recently

My CC is 5.4.2.2 (387)
Calibre is 3.26.1

any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated

connecting Calibre to Calibre without wireless connection

I'v recently bought a tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab A - 32GB). Naturally I've installed Calibre Companion on my tablet.

Calibre is installed on my Windows 10 64-bit PC. It's database is present on Stack (cloud service). Actually I'm thinking of moving Calibre-database to Dropbox's cloud service.

My PC belongs to a home-network, but isn't connected using WiFi. So wire connected.

My question: what seems the best way to connect Calibre to CC, including syncing?

Calibre Companion (new and need help please)

Hi I'm Jason and I'm new to all this but I'm learning and loving creating my digital media library. Focusing mostly on books and comics at the moment. Eventually I want to create a personal cloud but I'm still learning. Right now my library is stored on an external hd. I have an old Samsung notebook to to replace and LG Stylo 3 Plus. That's what I'm using. For my books I have Calibre which of course is awesome for cataloguing the books as y'all well know lol. Anyway I've read the FAQs but I can be thick plus I got the ADHD so it takes me a minute sometimes. Can someone just lay it out real simple for me. So I got around 1500 books--haven't quite got them all catalogued but almost. And I created my own field for "Library or shelf" that groups them how I want them so that I can just sync them to my phone by that field. But my ext hd is connected by usb cord to my notebook which one faq said calibre couldn't do. So....how exactly should I handle this? Thanks in advance and since I'm completely new at all this any advice or tips on anything or any sources y'all wanna recommend I appreciate. (Btw for comics I'm using ComicRack and video I think I'm going with Plex yes? And music? Media Monkey or would that be Plex too? And an image viewer that could double as a slide show? Thanks again guys. ) oh yeah how bout an ebook reader? I looked at a bunch. Any preferences? I just got mostly epubs with a smattering of pdfs. I'm kinda trying out Librera right now.

Calibre Web opds access failing as content server

$

Hey,

I recently found a program that acts as very nice and fully featured web browser for a calbre library called 'Calibre Web': https://github.com/janeczku/calibre-web

It installed and started working pretty easily but when I attempt to configure its url as a content server inside calibre companion, it refuses to past the "index" page.

CC will connect to the url fine and show me the first page with a list of categories, but when I click on the categories themselves, nothing happens. The search action will actually find books that match but again I can't actually open the links it returns.

I've verified that the links do work in a web browser both on my phone client and a laptop, so I assume there's something slightly off in the format it's returning the opds data in?

Here's an example of the index page it returns:

Code:

I don’t really understand cover view

I don’t really understand cover view
When I connect to a dropbox folder or to the content server my books are shown in list view.
Is cover view - I.e. grid view - only for books I have downloaded onto my device?
I only see the grid icon on the initial connect page.

Trying to share a dropbox library with a friend using link.

Hi folks! I am trying to share a calibre library inn dropbox with a friend who has Calibre Companion installed on an Android Device. I've done this before, but I forget how.

There is one possible complicating factor in this case. Dropbox has two ways of sharing a folder -- as a folder within the dropbox program itself, or as a link to the folder, sent by email, which opens the folder via browser. The former method is restricted to the size of the recipient's available space, while the latter has no such limitation. My library is much larger than the account of the friend I am trying to share with. So I am hoping there is a way he can sign into my library via the link to the folder in the web app, rather than via a shared folder inside of the dropbox app.

How do I remove book from Kindle Fire

$

when I sync with Calibre and uncheck the OnDevice box does that take it off my Kindle Fire? Or just off my list of books when I click Books? Do I do that and select the book in the book list and say remove from device?

Thanks!

cc and moon+ will not agree on file path names

$

i have had this issue on other tablets, but it is bugging me now on my new Lenovo yoga tab ( android 7)
CC uses storage/emulated/0..... as part af any path name to books' folders, which is believe is the official correct method
but the moon+ folder browser replaces emulated with a symlink? of sdcard so when I browse to the folder that CC is using- /emulated/0/books , moon+ shows it as /sdcard/books.

both programs disallow typing a folder path, you have to browse from root and accept that offered path names

having two different path names which lead to the same folder causes various problems - leads to duplicate entries in recent books if the same book is opened 1) via CC, 2 via moon+ my files. and to issues with delete: e.g. if I delete a book in CC, moon+ keeps the /sdcard/ reference to it in recent files, though admits that the file is not present when queried

my previous workaround , on my samsung tablet, was to use a real SD card, then both programs would agree on the path to that, but I have no actual sd card in this Lenovo tablet, nor do I really need one as it has 32Gb on board.

is there ANY way to force the 2 programs to agree on a path name to a books folder in internal storage?

PS I have posted here rather than in the very long Moon+ thread elsewhere. rules say I cannot post twice but I am happy for the question to be moved,

I have tried putting the CC folder elsewhere, but any selection gets prefixed with /emulated/0 and that is always changed, in moon+ to /sdcard
